Author to share a personal story at book-signing

Bruce Feiler became a New York Times best-selling author with his first eight books about faith, family and finding meaning through his journeys across the world.

But his ninth book takes an even more personal journey as Feiler finds his own meaning. "The Council of Dads" tells the story of Feiler's battle with cancer and what could've become of his family had he lost that battle.

Feiler didn't lose that battle - he's been cancer-free for two years now. On March 27, he'll come to Athens to tell his story, which is both personal and spiritual - and it's not all about him.

"It's about how the power of community can help during difficult times," he said. "And it's about the incredible wisdom I gained on how to live a life full of meaning."

When Feiler found out he had cancer, he wrote to six men in his life who were from different walks and asked if they'd be there for different passages in his daughters' lives.

"I believe my daughters will have plenty of opportunities in their lives," he wrote to these men. "They'll have loving families. They'll have welcoming homes. They'll have each other.

"But they may not have me. They may not have their dad. Will you help be their dad?"
